The frontal setting interrupted by the elegant advance of the right leg, the arms open according to a theatrical eloquence, and especially the undulating drapery of the Virgin&#8217;s mantle, rich in deep and numerous &#8220;moves,&#8221; clearly lead back to the context of seventeenth-century Italy.<br \/>\nThe stylistic features present some typically Po Valley elements, such as the remarkable <strong>realism<\/strong> found in the Virgin&#8217;s headdress and the Child&#8217;s thick hair associated with the formal elegances of the robe and the sweet, serene features of the faces that suggest its original location between Piedmont and Lombardy.
